Breast puncture

Breast puncture

What is a breast needle aspiration and why is it performed?

Breast needle aspiration (FNA – Fine Needle Aspiration) is a minimally invasive diagnostic method in which a small sample of cells is taken from a breast lesion using a thin needle. It is used to assess cystic and benign-appearing lesions, as well as to distinguish solid from fluid-filled changes. The method is quick, safe, and often sufficient to establish a cytological diagnosis.

What does the procedure involve?

• Clinical and ultrasound assessment of the lesion before aspiration
• Sampling with a thin needle
• Sending the material for cytological analysis
• Recommendation for further follow-up or additional diagnostics, as needed

Preparation

• No special preparation is required.
• If you have previous results (breast ultrasound, mammogram, or MRI), it is recommended that you bring them with you.
