What is a thyroid biopsy and why is it performed?

A thyroid biopsy, specifically fine-needle aspiration (FNA), is performed for the cytological evaluation of thyroid nodules. It is recommended when ultrasound findings indicate the need for further analysis to differentiate between benign and suspicious changes. This method is safe, minimally invasive, and the most important step in evaluating thyroid nodules.
