What is audiometry and why is it performed?

Audiometry is the fundamental method for hearing assessment. It is used when hearing loss is suspected, for ringing in the ears (tinnitus), a feeling of pressure in the ear, following infections, exposure to noise, or as part of routine physical examinations.

• Audiometric testing
• Assessment of hearing thresholds at various frequencies
• Analysis of the type and degree of hearing impairment
• Recommendations for further treatment or monitoring

Preparation

• No special preparation is required.
• It is advisable to avoid exposure to loud noises for several hours before testing.
