What is an ECG and why is it done?

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a basic, quick, and painless method for assessing the heart’s electrical activity. It is performed for chest pain, arrhythmias, a fast or slow heart rate, high blood pressure, and as part of a routine check-up.
