What is a Pap test and why is it done?
Pap smear (Pap test) is a screening method used for early detection of abnormal cells on the cervix, which may represent cancerous or precancerous changes. It is recommended to always perform it together with colposcopy, as combining these two methods achieves significantly higher diagnostic accuracy.
What does the examination include?
• Taking a cervical cell swab
• Laboratory analysis of the cells
• Detection of abnormal cells and inflammatory changes
Preparation
• Avoid sexual intercourse, vaginal suppositories, and creams for 48 h before the swab is taken
