What is a CORE breast biopsy and why is it performed?

CORE breast biopsy is a minimally invasive method for obtaining a tissue sample using a wide needle, guided by ultrasound. It represents the gold standard in diagnosing suspicious changes and allows for a reliable assessment of whether a change is benign or malignant. This method replaces the earlier practice of diagnosis during surgery, thus avoiding unnecessary anesthesia and scars.

What does the procedure involve?

• Local anesthesia for a pain-free procedure
• Collection of at least 3 representative tissue samples
• Ultrasound guidance for maximum precision
• Sending the sample for pathohistological (PH) analysis
• Possibility of determining hormone receptors and HER2 status

CORE biopsy replaces the old practice of diagnosing during surgery, thereby avoiding unnecessary anesthesia and scars.
