What is mammography and why is it performed?

Mammography is recommended for women after the age of 40 and represents the gold standard in breast cancer screening and diagnostics. It is recommended that after the first mammogram, the examination be repeated every two years, or more frequently based on the radiologist’s assessment. Regular mammographic check-ups are one of the most important steps in breast cancer prevention, as they allow for the detection of changes in the earliest, fully curable stage.

Poliklinika Natal is equipped with a digital mammogram with tomosynthesis (3D), which provides layered and extremely precise breast imaging with a minimal dose of radiation. Thanks to modern technology, mammography on contemporary devices is painless or minimally uncomfortable, and diagnostic reliability is up to 30% higher compared to conventional 2D mammography.

Preparation

• The examination is best performed 5 to 15 days after the start of the menstrual cycle
