What is spirometry and why is it performed?

Spirometry is a fundamental lung function test used for asthma, COPD, chronic cough, and breathing difficulties. It is performed as part of a pulmonological examination.

 

What’s included in the review?

  • Measurement of airflow and lung capacity
  • Analysis of breathing patterns
  • Bronchodilator test if necessary

 

Preparation

  • Do not use inhaled bronchodilators 6–8 hours before the test (unless otherwise directed by a doctor).
  • Arrive rested, avoiding major physical exertion immediately before the examination.
